Interim report January – September 2022

THIRD QUARTER

  • Revenues amounted to MSEK 458.0 (MSEK 289.4), an increase by 58 % compared to the same period last year.

  • Operating profit amounted to MSEK 220.6 (MSEK -44.6).

  • Profit after financial items amounted to MSEK 219.5 (MSEK -45.4), and profit after tax amounted to MSEK 175.9 (MSEK -33.2).

  • Cash flow from operating activities amounted to MSEK 242.3 (MSEK 59.4), and cash flow from investing activities amounted to MSEK -167.6

    (MSEK -151.4).

  • By the end of the period cash amounted to MSEK 665.9 (MSEK 552.3).

  • Earnings per share before dilution amounted to SEK 1.67 (SEK -0.31) and after dilution SEK 1.67 (SEK -0.31).

  • Revenues in the quarter are mainly attributable to Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings III, Europa Universalis IV, Hearts of Iron IV and Stellaris.

IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THE THIRD QUARTER

  • New downloadable content for the following games was released during the quarter;

    By Blood Alone for Hearts of Iron IV, Friends & Foes for Crusader Kings III, Toxoids for Stellaris, Plazas and Promenades for Cities: Skylines, Lions of the North for Europa Universalis IV.

  • Across the Obelisk was released in version 1.0. 

  • New ports of downloadable content were released during the quarter; Aquatics Species Pack for Stellaris: Console Edition. 

FIRST NINE MONTHS

  • Revenues amounted to MSEK 1,392.9 (MSEK 1,056.9), an increase by 32 % compared to the same period last year.

  • Operating profit amounted to MSEK 642.7 (MSEK 159.3), an increase by 303 %.

  • Profit after financial items amounted to MSEK 640.2 (MSEK 156.4), and profit after tax amounted to MSEK 514.5 (MSEK 131.9).

  • Earnings per share before dilution amounted to SEK 4.87 (SEK 1.25) and after dilution SEK 4.86 (SEK 1.25).

SUBSEQUENT EVENTS

  • The new game Victoria 3, developed by Paradox Development Studio, was released on 25 October.

COMMENT BY THE CEO

We've come a long way in the last 12 months and in the past quarter a lot has gone Paradox's way. We've released a string of excellent DLCs for our best-selling games, we've made good progress in the development of our unannounced projects, and we've gotten the first results from our work with finding new experimental titles. At the same time, we have gotten a significant boost from the strong currency tailwinds. All this gives us a profit margin of 48 percent for the quarter.
